VOLUNTEER TEACHING IN LAOS

Making a positive life-changing impact during your travels

If you are looking for a meaningful, purposeful experience, join the English Club Laos Volunteer Program today! No matter how short your stay, your time, your knowledge, your energy, has a profound impact on the life our students.

OUR VOLUNTERS

Our volunteers come from all over the world, the only requirements being the ability to speak English, coupled with a keen interest to help. To become a volunteer teacher, we do not require a teaching certificate or any teaching experience, or even require being a native speaker. However, we do require that you speak English to an advanced level, with a clear accent. We ask this because we hope to give our students the best quality experience and education that they can get.

Aged anywhere between 18 to 70, they are often college students, professionals on holidays, retired teachers, gap-year or world travelers and anything in between.

All our volunteers work alongside our Lao teachers in the classrooms, assisting them with pronunciation and providing context for foreign/western concepts present in the teaching materials. They also bring invaluable knowledge and exposure, allowing our students to experience and appreciate different cultures. Our volunteers bring a little bit of fun, adventure and excitement to the classrooms!

VOLUNTEER SCHEDULE

Volunteers directly contribute to improving the English skills of our students. Although our Lao teachers are very talented and well prepared, volunteers bring the pronunciation skills and world experiences which are invaluable to both, our teachers and our students.
Volunteers normally spend 4-6 hours per day, Monday to Friday, supporting the teachers and students during the different classes. Volunteers are also encouraged to engage in the conversation sessions or participate in fun learning games with our students.

We ask all volunteers to be flexible with program and a typical daily schedule is likely to go something like this:

  • 7:00 AM Breakfast at the volunteer guesthouse.
  • 8:00 AM Volunteers travel to the School
  • 8:15 AM Pre-start meeting with the project supervisor
  • 8:30 AM Volunteer duties starts
  • 11: 30 AM Volunteers break for lunch at local restaurant near by school or travel back to the volunteer guesthouse for relax.

You can partake in many outdoor activities, including cave exploring, hiking, kayaking, tubing and rock climbing. In town you can enjoy a fun and laid-back scene. There are bars and restaurants serving Lao and international foods, and you can stroll past Buddhist temples, colorful textile shops and open-air markets to mingle with locals.

  • BENEFITS OF THE EXPERIENCES

In return, volunteers will find that our Lao students are eager and hard-working  and a true delight to get to know. Invariably our volunteers leave English Club Laos with one regret; wishing they could stay longer.
While working with our students, you’ll witness progress and celebrate both big and small victories together. You’ll gain valuable teaching and tutoring experience and will often find yourself learning as much as your students! You will gain insight into the Lao culture and volunteers often develop lasting friendships with our students. Many also have opportunities get to know their families as well.
Having the opportunity to support and influence the lives of these students is a privilege and makes for a truly meaningful, memorable, and enjoyable experience for our volunteers.
Consistently we find that two things happen as a result of volunteering at English Club Laos; you will fall in love with the students and the students will fall in love with you!
